border: #646363 1px solid;\">3D OCT Optic Nerve Imaging<\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 120px; border: #646363 1px solid;\"><strong>&#8211;<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 120px; border: #646363 1px solid;\"><strong>Yes<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The risk factors for developing chronic or acute glaucoma are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>High Intraocular pressure<\/li>\n<li>Age over 40<\/li>\n<li>Family History of glaucoma (particularly siblings)<\/li>\n<li>Longsightedness with shallow anterior chamber angles<\/li>\n<li>Shortsightedness over -6.00<\/li>\n<li>Afro-Carribean, Eskimo or South-East Asian descent<\/li>\n<li>Use of inhaled or oral corticosteroids (for example asthma and arthritis treatments)<\/li>\n<li>Diabetes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you have <strong>any<\/strong> of these risk factors we recommend you have an\u00a0<a title=\"Glaucoma\" href=\"http:\/\/www.jonesandjones.org.uk\/health-care\/glaucoma\/\">Glaucoma Assessment <\/a>so that we can comprehensively evaluate your risk.<\/p>\n<p>The 3 simple tests in a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jonesandjones.org.uk\/health-care\/sight-test\/\">Sight Test<\/a> may not be sufficient to detect the disease early when treatment is often more effective.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">\u00a0<a href=\"#top\">back to top<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a name=\"NHS_sight_test\"><\/a><strong>Who is eligible for an NHS Sight test?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You may be entitled to a NHS sight test if you are in one of these groups:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Over 60<\/li>\n<li>Under 16*<\/li>\n<li>Full time student aged 16, 17, or 18*<\/li>\n<li>Named on a HC2 certificate*<\/li>\n<li>Registered blind or partially sighted*<\/li>\n<li>Suffer from diabetes or glaucoma<\/li>\n<li>Considered at risk of glaucoma by an ophthalmologist<\/li>\n<li>Over 40 and the parent or brother or sister or child of a person who has or had glaucoma<\/li>\n<li>Prescribed complex lenses under the NHS optical voucher scheme<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Or if you or your partner receives:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Income support*<\/li>\n<li>Income based jobseekers allowance*<\/li>\n<li>Pension credit guarantee credit*<\/li>\n<li>Tax credit *<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">* You may also be entitled to an optical voucher<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">\u00a0<a href=\"#top\">back to top<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><a name=\"child_st\"><\/a>What age should children have their first Sight Test?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Children need to have an sight test early in life.\u00a0 This is particularly important now that school vision screening has been withdrawn in many areas.\u00a0 In young children problems such as lazy eyes and squints can be treated, but these treatments become less effective the closer the child is to the age of 8 years.\u00a0 Additionally, an uncorrected glasses prescription has a detrimental effect on your child eduction and academic ability.\u00a0 Ideally we like to see most children at about the age of 4 years but if there is a family history of turns, squints or lazy eyes we like to see them from about the age of 2 years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">\u00a0<a href=\"#top\">back to top<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><a name=\"child_cl\"><\/a>What age can children wear contact lenses?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There is no set age at which children can wear contact lenses and, like adults, children can often find wearing contact lenses very liberating especially when participating in sporting activities.\u00a0 We try to gauge a child&#8217;s responsibility and attitude toward contact lenses.\u00a0 Once they feel they are ready to try lenses we initially try to fit daily disposable lenses on a limited wearing schedule to provide the lowest risk to the child&#8217;s ocular health.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">\u00a0<a href=\"#top\">back to top<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><a name=\"benefits\"><\/a>I am on benefits, how much will new spectacles cost?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In general terms the NHS optical voucher will cover the cost of basic plastic single vision or bifocal lenses.\u00a0 There will also be a contribution toward the frames. \u00a0 We do hold a limited stock of frames that are available free to patients in receipt of benefits.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><a href=\"#top\">back to top<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is the difference between a Sight Test and an Eye Examination?
